Emergency Eye Care

At Chesterfield EyeWorks, our experienced eye doctors have the knowledge and skills necessary to handle a range of eye emergencies. While a visit to the emergency room is sometimes necessary, our experienced eye doctor is often better equipped to handle certain eye emergencies. We have state-of-the-art technology that allows us to diagnose and treat various conditions in our office without the long wait times typically associated with a visit to the ER.

What is considered an eye emergency?

Any injury or symptom that causes significant discomfort or affects your ability to see clearly should be considered an emergency. Common examples of eye emergencies include foreign objects in the eye, chemical burns, sudden vision loss, severe eye pain, and eye injuries from accidents or sports-related activities. If you experience redness, discharge, an increase in eye floaters, or any other concerning symptoms, don’t hesitate to contact us immediately.

What to do in an eye emergency

In the event of an eye emergency, it’s important to remain calm and follow these steps before coming into our office:

  • Do not attempt to remove an object stuck in your eye.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes as this can cause further damage.
  • If chemicals get into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes.
  • Have someone else drive you to our office or the emergency room.

When it comes to your vision and overall eye health, playing it safe is always the best approach. While some eye emergencies may seem minor at first, delaying treatment can lead to serious complications and permanent damage. If you’re currently experiencing an eye emergency, please call us immediately for an emergency eye exam in Springfield.
